Tulum, Coba and a cave cenote

A full day from Cancun that reaches Tulum at opening time, gives you about two and a half hours at Coba, then sends you swimming through the cave passages of Nohoch Nah Chich. It's the cheapest way to see both sites with a guide, if you can face a 5 a.m. start.

Tulum, Coba & Cave Cenote from Cancun

About this experience

This is Amigo Tours' long-running Tulum and Coba day, and with 1,294 reviews it's the most-reviewed Coba trip on Viator. The early start buys you something real: Tulum at 8 a.m., before the coaches and the heat, then Coba while it's still shady. The listing gives two hours in Tulum and two and a half hours at Coba, with a chocolate tasting and a tequila tasting fitted in between.

The third stop is the best surprise. Cenote Nohoch Nah Chich, Maya for "giant birdcage", belongs to one of the longest underwater cave systems on Earth, and a guide leads you through its passages with a light. Several guests thought it would be an open pool and found themselves swimming under stalactites. A buffet lunch closes the day before the drive back to Cancun.

Read the small print before you book. The $59 price leaves out the site fees of $44 per person, paid on the day or the day before, by credit card only, unless you pick an all-inclusive option. The life vest and locker cost another $10. And the timings are optimistic: one guest counted about 1 hour 15 minutes at Coba once tickets, toilets and shops were done, and a February 2026 review describes a day subcontracted to another company with the tastings dropped. Most guests still give it five stars, mostly for the guides and the cave.

What guests say

★★★★★

We started at Tulum right when it opened at 8 a.m., and despite it being high season, there were no crowds. [...] Our second stop was Cobá, where we rented bikes and climbed the temple. An incredible experience! [...] Amigo Tours was exceptional. We had plenty of time at each stop and were never rushed.

Comfortable bus, long day starting at 515a and returning back around 6p. We'll worth it. Tulum was great, Coba was even better (make sure you get a bike and ride immediately to the main attraction, Nohoch Mul, to have time to climb up the highest building at 42 meters!).

We thought it was just a swim in the visible part of the sinkhole. We did not realize that we were going into the cavern and exploring underground. Amazing views and picture opportunities here.

2 comments for others - realize you might not eat until later in the afternoon (we were picked up at 5am and ate lunch around 230pm - so make sure you take snacks).

  • A waterproof phone pouch and a mask or goggles make the cave swim much better.
