Small-group operator (on Viator) · Playa del Carmen
Fifteen guests at most, an art historian guide, Tulum early, the new Maya museum in Jaguar Park, two and a half hours at Coba and a swim in the deep Multun-Ha cenote. It's the small-group day for people who want the history explained properly, from Playa del Carmen.

This day runs on Wednesdays and Saturdays only, with hotel pickups between 5:00 and 7:30 in the Playa del Carmen area (Cancun and Costa Mujeres hotels are left out). The van holds fifteen guests at most, and guests report groups of four to ten. Your guide is described as an art historian, and reviewers keep naming the same people, Jesus, Gabriel and Tonancy, for knowing far more than the script.
Tulum comes first, about two hours at opening time, then 45 minutes in Jaguar Park at the Museum of the Eastern Coast, which opened in September 2024 with about 300 original Maya pieces. Then the drive inland to Coba for two and a half hours, by bike or tricycle taxi, with time for Nohoch Mul. A January 2026 guest's guide sent them straight to the pyramid to beat the queue. The day ends with a swim in Multun-Ha, a closed cave cenote near Coba reached by a long wooden staircase, and a buffet lunch.
What you pay on top: the Tulum ticket, $25 per person on site, children included. Coba and the cenote are paid. Drinks with lunch are extra. Older reviews mention Paradise Beach: the current itinerary swaps the beach for the museum, so don't pack for a beach afternoon.

★★★★★He made sure to maximize our time in the various areas. For example, he suggested we head straight to the climbable ruin in Coba (before stopping to look at anything else) so we didn't have to wait in a very long line. We took his advice and were able to start climbing almost right away!
★★★★★Coba was deep in the jungle. You could take a pedicab or bike to make it to the temple faster. We had 15 minutes per group to walk up, take photos, and walk down. Next we went to the cenote.
★★★★★The group size was only six. My family of four and another couple. We had the Cenote to ourselves and the early morning stop at Tullum meant no other tourists in our photos.
★★★★★A highlight of the trip was lunch at a local restaurant with handmade tortillas and various other delicious foods. My wife and I are vegan, and we had plenty to eat, and it was all so good.
